David’s newest novel, The Double, presents a Kafkaesque fable satirizing autocracy and the corruption it creates. Viktor X., a low-level government data analyst, is kidnapped by Gray Men as he crosses the Plaza of Heroes on his way to the Presidential Palace. He is to be metamorphosed into a doppelgänger to protect a brutal dictator from assassination. Viktor struggles with losing his identity as he is forced to adopt another.
